During this second lesson NASA needs the precise drawing of the spaceship they will build to travel to the unknown planets!

In this activity students were instructed by powerpoint what NASA has sent for them to create. They are to first sketch out a plan for their final drawings in mixed media. After the powerpoint students got right to work doing a quick sketch of their spaceship.

Ori's Spaceship quick sketch

After the sketches were done the students were instructed to bring their sketches to the round rug to talk about the important decisions they made in their sketches. Molly asked the students to raise their hands if they wanted to share some of their spaceships.

Discussing the sketches

Ori raised his hand to share his drawing “My spaceship can blast through planets!”

After the discussion Molly conducted a demo on how to create a multi media art work. She added materials like tin foil, cut construction paper, paint, oil pastel, markers and more! Students are encouraged to use at least three different materials on their art work. In no time at all students got to work fast!

Lucas is creating a cheese spaceship that will travel to the cheese planet!

Lucas works quickly on this large cheese spaceship. He is using pencil crayons and markers. Lucas “I need to make a control panel, do spaceships have steering wheels?” he asks.  After discussing whether or not spaceship have steering wheels Lucas decides he will add one on this spaceship along with other very important controls.

The control panel

When Lucas makes his control panel in his cheese spaceship, he is sure to leave out no detail!!  This is AMAZING!

Below is the final masterpiece of The Cheese Spaceship made by Lucas

The Cheese Spaceship!

At the ending of class all of the students had great spaceship art work that was colorful and creative!

The Heart Spaceship

Shayna showing us her beautiful drawing with added color paper, tin foil and oil pastels of The Heart spaceship “My spaceship is a heart that shoots lasers!”

After we send these plans to NASA they will surely be amazed by the brave creativity of the 2nd and 3rd graders from Fort Collins, Colorado!!
